For years, the reverse osmosis process was so expensive it was used only for medical, laboratory and commercial applications. New technology has made reverse osmosis much more affordable, and is now the most efficient and economical way to purify most water sources.

You may also wish to run a line from your reverse osmosis unit to your fridge dispenser, ice-maker or humidifier. Enjoy pure, clean, chilled water from your fridge dispenser and/or ice maker. With pure water run to your humidifier, you may never have to change the filter again!

Increasing the size of the R.O. unit’s holding tank will give you more pure water on hand for those higher-use families. Holding Tanks

Standard Holding Tank

An R.O.’s holding tank contains the pure water produced by the R.O. The holding tank capacity determines how much pure water is available at any given time for consumption. All Rainsoft residential reverse osmosis systems come complete with a standard 2.2 gallon holding tank. While those tanks provide ample pure water for most families, larger holding tanks have become increasingly popular. Rainsoft stocks a variety of holding tanks for all needs.

Larger Holding Tank

For larger families, or business/commercial needs, larger holding tanks are recommended. These include the RO-15, RO-20, and RO-40 holding tanks. If you require a larger holding tank please select this option and one of our sales staff will be happy to discuss your exact needs with you.

The items below are not necessary, however they can make our excellent standard units even better and more efficient.

PERMEATE PUMP

A permeate pump greatly reduces the back pressure from the RO unit’s storage tank. This allows the RO membrane to take full advantage of the pressure that it has.

Extends the life span of your pre-filters and booster pump by up to 85%.
Powered by water, requires no electricity.

90% AUTO SHUTOFF

A 90% ASO will cause your RO System to automatically shut off when the tank pressure reaches 90% of the incoming line pressure.

POSSIBLE REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

The items below are typically unnecessary when using municipal water supplies but are quite often needed in rural applications. A simple water analysis will reveal whether or not the equipment below is a necessity.

BOOSTER PUMP

A booster pumps is required in situations where there is inadequate water pressure or high total dissolved solids (TDS). Typical for rural applications.

Increases low feed water pressure to RO systems, which improves water quality and production of pure water.
Reduces the amount of effluent (waste) water that runs to drain.
Increases membrane efficiency through increased water pressure.

ACCUMULATOR PUMP

An accumulator pump is typically used when a RO system is connected to a fridge, ice maker or humidifier.

Smooths water faucet pulses.
Reduces pump cycling.
Reduces system noise.
Pre-pressurized to 20 PSI with built in diaphragm.

FORWARDING PUMP

A forwarding pump is used when line pressure alone is not sufficient to transport water from your holding tank to your point-of-use location (sink, fridge, humidifier, etc).
